Coaching Position Job Description

Position Overview

At the Hill School of Fort Worth, coaches play a vital role in the development of student-athletes by fostering athletic skill, teamwork, discipline, and personal growth within a supportive and age-appropriate environment. Through positive leadership and high standards, Hill School coaches help students build confidence, resilience, and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity.

Coaching Philosophy

Hill School coaches view competition as an opportunity for learning and growth. Coaches are expected to teach student-athletes how to handle both success and adversity with maturity, humility, and resilience while maintaining a positive and respectful team culture.

Core Responsibilities

• Teach and develop sport-specific skills using age-appropriate instruction and training methods
• Create structured, inclusive practices that emphasize effort, progress, and teamwork
• Promote sportsmanship, respect, integrity, and personal accountability
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes during practices, games, and events
• Plan and prepare practices, games, and competitions aligned with program goals
• Support student-athletes of all experience levels and encourage growth and confidence
• Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, and school staff
• Model professionalism, enthusiasm, and positive leadership on and off the field
• Uphold school policies, athletic guidelines, and behavioral expectations

Qualifications

• Coaching experience at the youth, middle school, or upper school level (preferred)
• Knowledge of sport-specific skills, rules, and athlete development
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to motivate and connect with students in a positive, developmentally appropriate manner
• Commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment for all athletes
• CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Complete the following NFHS trainings:
  • Afterschool Security
  • The Collapsed Student
  • Heat Illness Prevention
  • Concussion in Sports
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest
• Commitment to Students and Community
