The Whitney’s Academic Year Internship program offers a semester-long paid internship for undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in an accredited academic program. The program includes training, direct work experience, professional development, and a weekly speaker series.
The Whitney’s Fall internship program is a full-time, paid, nine-week session primarily for undergraduate students. The internship is hybrid, with some onsite work. For Fall 2026, interns commit between 16–21 hours per week over 10–12 weeks for a total of 176 hours. The program will begin on September 15, 2026, and end on December 5, 2026 (this may vary depending on schedule). Participants must be available Monday through Friday for nine consecutive weeks, five days per week. Interns are assigned to a specific department at the Museum for the duration of the internship.
● Work on site 2-3 days per week (includes required availability on Saturdays and every second Sunday)
● Assist during in-person Family Programs, work with Social Impact Facilitators, and create a welcoming environment for families and children at the museum
● Prepare art materials and organize material inventory
● Perform administrative tasks to support programs (track statistics, create signages and informational materials)
● Experience working with art materials
● Interest in working with children and families
● Microsoft Office, including Excel
● Creativity, attention to detail, ability to work on a team
● Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student who has completed at least two years of academic coursework
● While a demonstrated interest in art and art history is preferred, students in all majors are encouraged to apply
● Previous museum experience is not required
Outcomes
● The intern will become a valued part of the Family Programs team, assisting in running educational programs for families each week
● They will gain hands-on experience in preparing art materials, performing administrative tasks to support programs, and facilitating programs
Compensation
Interns will be paid a stipend of $3000.
